To minimise the spread of germs and infectious diseases within the service and provide a healthy and hygienic environment for the children to learn in.
Explanation:
An exclusion policy is needed to ensure that there is a consistent approach to infectious diseases and the necessary time needed away from the centre. This will help to minimise the risk of exposure to childcare educators and other children to infectious diseases transmitted from children in care.
Practice:
- The service will follow the recommended exclusion periods for infectious conditions from the National Health & Medical research Council December 2005
- The service will advise all staff and families upon commencement of the exclusion list to ensure a consistent understanding of exclusion periods is present
- The service displays the exclusion list in the foyer for families and staff perusal
- The Staying Healthy In Childcare Edition 5 (situated in the foyer) is used as a guide of infectious diseases for parent and educator information
- The service notifies parents by a notice when an infectious disease outbreak occurs. This also includes signs & symptoms of the disease
- The service adopts the statement “that children who are unwell should stay at home from the service to be mindful of other families and educators.
- Parents will be given a ’24 hour’ exclusion notification card to notify them of the reason why and when their child is able to return. The parent signs this and is then added to the child’s file.
