Safety checklist, morning & afternoon yard checks
Aim:
To ensure that the Service is a safe and well maintained environment for children to learn in. Educators will monitor all indoor/outdoor areas for any potentially dangerous hazards or risks.
Explanation:
Staff and management are trained to continually “Think Safe” about all possible hazards and complete safety checks to ensure a safe environment. Maintaining our buildings and equipment regularly will help to ensure the Service stays safe for families, children and staff.
Legislative Responsibility:
103 Premises, furniture and equipment to be safe, clean and in good repair
(1) The approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that the education and care service premises and all equipment and furniture used in providing the education and care service are safe, clean and in good repair.
Penalty: $2000.
(2) This regulation does not apply to a part of a family day care residence that is not used to provide a family day care service.
Note--
A compliance direction may be issued for failure to comply with this regulation.
105 Furniture, materials and equipment
The approved provider of an education and care service must ensure that each child being educated and cared for by the education and care service has access to sufficient furniture, materials and developmentally appropriate equipment suitable for the education and care of that child.
Note--
A compliance direction may be issued for failure to comply with this regulation.
Implementation:
- Staff complete a daily environment checklist which ensures that the outdoor area has been checked for hazards and potentially dangerous products before the children enter the area. These safety checks occur early in the morning before children arrive, and again in the afternoon prior to children and educators moving outside for afternoon tea.
- The Service has a lock up checklist to ensure that the centre is closed in a safe way and all children have been accounted for and have left the service.
- If a Child has an accident at the service, we record an incident report on the Xplor App & if a staff member or family member has an accident at the service, we record this on the ‘Incident, injury, trama and illness record’
- The Service has hazard identification register for any persons who come across a hazard to fill in and pass onto management.
